Colorado Springs Native Kaufman Includes Denver As A Self-Sustaining Green City In Her New Environmental Thriller.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (APRIL 27, 2009) – The Way Things Are Publications, an independent press that focuses on raising social awareness, announced today that Colorado Springs born Kathleen Kaufman’s debut novel, The Tree Museum is now available for purchase in all major U.S. bookstores. Called an “environmental thriller” by the publisher, The Tree Museum attempts to address a plethora of issues surrounding the environmental problems facing humanity and how these problems can be resolved.

Kaufman chose Denver as a key location in The Tree Museum and dramatically transforms it into a completely self-sustaining city by a seemingly all-powerful force called only “the signmakers”. The book follows the journey of a torn couple as they make their way across a transforming western U.S. where they meet their climatic fate in the new environmentally utopian Mile-High City.

“Denver represents an urban environment that is on the verge of a green revolution”, author Kathleen Kaufman said. “A strong social and environmental conscience is prevalent in Denver as well as the surrounding areas. Denver is a growing city with limited resources and is often in the center of conservation discussions and so I thought it fitting to put it as the apex of a story about environmental transformation.”

Now a high school teacher in inner city Los Angeles, Kaufman still stays closely connected to her family and long-time friends in Denver and all throughout Colorado.

Author Kathleen Kaufman’s The Tree Museum explores a world taken over by the Signmakers, a seemingly all-powerful group, that force humanity to become self-sufficient.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (APRIL 4, 2009)The Way Things Are Publications, an independent press that focuses on raising social awareness, announced today that its first book release will be launched on July 1st, 2009. The Tree Museum, by Kathleen Kaufman, is a social thriller that follows a world completely transformed by an enigmatic and powerful totalitarian force known only as the Signmakers. In effort to transform humanity into a self-sufficient and environmentally stable civilization, the Signmakers ruthlessly and systematically eliminate anything and any person that they deem wasteful. The story follows a torn couple on their odyssey throughout the American southwest while the Signmakers transform the world around them.

The Tree Museum attempts to address a plethora of issues surrounding the environmental problems humanity faces and how these problems can be resolved. Suggesting that the human race is not fully capable of resolving their destructive patterns, the book explores the idea that someone may need to force humanity to change. Doing so would result in a totalitarian movement and the complete loss of civil liberties, but with ultimate self-sufficiency as the outcome.

Apart from the philosophical debates that The Tree Museum uncovers, the compelling journey of the protagonists are steeped in psychological tension. As the character’s battle their own shortcomings, the changing landscape around them, and dangerous psychosis, their journey is even more challenging and captivating as the world they live in.

“We chose The Tree Museum for our launch publication because we believe it encapsulates how fiction can challenge our views and force us to ask very important questions about ourselves and our society,” said Jennifer Havenner, Director of Publishing for The Way Things Are Publications. “This book fits our mission to elevate social consciousness in a very real and engaging way.”
